Matt Dzurec conducted his undergraduate studies at Rollins College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy focusing on planning and sustainable development.
Matt also earned a Professional Development Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from San Francisco State University where he studied Remote Sensing, Database Design, and Cartography.
Subsequently, Matt worked jointly with NASA’s Earth Science Information Program in the San Francisco Bay Area developing uses for satellite imagery in commercial applications, ranging from agricultural management for the wine industry to identifying potential water recharge and protection areas in the Santa Margarita Groundwater Basin in Santa Cruz County. Matt was also responsible for securing federal grant funds to utilize IKONOS high resolution imagery to assist governments with spatial dataset sharing and regional planning initiatives. Matt continued to the private sector as a Cartographer overseeing complex mapping projects producing topographic maps and terrain models, developing GIS applications and employing new technologies into production. His projects ranged from infrared photographic analysis of Mississippi River flooding to mapping of Iwakuni Marine Air Base in Japan for the Department of Defense.
Upon leaving the cartography field, Matt worked for a land use planning firm in Malibu rising from an Associate Planner to Project Manager in two years where he was responsible for managing a wide variety of planning projects from civic to commercial and residential developments. He has experience guiding and coordinating with all requisite consultants throughout the design and permitting phases and facilitates entitlements with agency staff and planning officials. Matt has extensive experience across different municipalities in the Los Angeles region with expertise in resolving complicated coastal zone issues and assuring compliance with the California Coastal Act. In addition, Matt specializes in the preparation and oversight of environmental documentation required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and has represented clients before City Councils, Planning Commissions, Environmental Review Boards, the Coastal Commission and other agencies.
